21st Century Skills

There's lots to be found at http://www.p21.org/ by Partnership for 21st Century Skills!  Here is an overview of this site's belief that every student needs to be educated and prepared for the future.

This site is full of articles and resources for teachers, professors, parents, and community members.  I especially found the Route 21 link to be helpful.  There are actual resources for giving assessments and lessons focused on 21st century skills. You are able to search for what fits your needs.  Unfortunately, I felt that there is so much information on this site that it is challenging to navigate and know which avenue you want to investigate.  Some of the material I found was dated 2004, which I believe it outdated!

P21 and Fablevision created this short film below to help students and teachers understand that "education" is now more than the 3 R's... Now one must add the 4 C's (critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, and creativity and innovation).  The film is called "Above and Beyond".  If you'd like to read about this project, click here!

What do you think?  Will this film help your students see the importance of the 4 C's?

  2. Hi Melissa,
I really enjoyed the video, but I am not sold on the idea that our Kindergarten students will understand the concept. I think the video is better suited as a teaching tool for parents or even fellow teachers. I had not noticed that video on the P21 website. Thank you for sharing it!
Also I agree that some of the information was outdated. Did you find your state was one of the few that had decided to incorporate the 21st century skills into their curriculum? Also I noticed you said on Angel’s blog that it is easy to incorporate the skills into our Kindergarten curriculum and I agree with you. Teaching problem solving, communication and collaboration are every day occurrences in Kindergarten. What ideas do you have for teaching critical thinking?

  3. You are amazing at all this technology stuff. Your layout of your blog is amazing and I love how you copied the chart and the little video to your page. I also felt the same way about that website as you did. It was so much information but hard to find the stuff that I needed or could use. it would have been easier if they broke it up for things teachers could use in the class versus informational stuff.

  4. Thanks, Ladies! I agree, Chelsea... Kindergarteners will have a difficult time understanding the concept... but frankly, they are not the ones who need convinced!
